Interview with Jean-Paul MOATTI on the Global Sustainable Development Report

Professor Jean-Paul MOATTI appointed by UN Secretary-General Ban KI-MOON among 14 other eminent scientists and experts to draft the 2019 edition of the quadrennial Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) . He was also appointed President and Director-general of the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) in 2015. I had the pleasure to sit down at the Pathos Café on 1 st avenue and talk with Professor Jean-Paul MOATTI while in New York during the UN 2018 High Level Political Forum (HLPF). The discussion was to focus on the work of the independent group of scientists (IGS) producing the 2019 edition of the quadrennial Global Sustainable Development Report ( GSDR ). The Role and Place of the High-Level Political Forum in Strengthening the Global Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development – An effort to analyse the challenges to the High Level Political Forum and offer a few options Guest blog by Jan Gustav Strandenaes The UNGA decision and resolution behind the HLPF On July 9, 2013, during the morning session of its 91 st  Plenary Meeting, the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, in resolution 67/290 formally adopted by consensus the format and the organizational aspects of the high level political forum (HLPF). The resolution also recommended to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), to abolish the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), effective from the conclusion of its 20th and last session, to be held prior to the first meeting of the forum later that same year. It also aims to enable more scientific input into  international policy  in the crucial implementation of the  Sustainable Development Goals  (SDGs) after 2015. Opening the forum's inaugural session in New York, UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon said it would be a key platform for examining global challenges in a "holistic and integrated manner". "This forum can be the catalyst for a strengthened global partnership for sustainable development, providing political leadership grounded in solid science," he said.
