First published here The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are the world's shared blueprint for 2030. A professional's guide to how the goals fit together, what the latest progress data shows, and where business fits in the remaining years. Over the past four decades, sustainability has evolved from a niche concern into a defining global agenda. From the foundations laid by the Brundtland Report to the rise of ESG, net-zero commitments, and global frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals, the field has expanded rapidly and entered the mainstream. Yet today, many working in sustainability sense that the agenda is entering a new phase. Sustainability at a Crossroads , a global consultation conducted in 2025 by GlobeScan, ERM, and Volans, explored how practitioners are experiencing this moment. Drawing on perspectives from sustainability professionals across regions and sectors, the research pointed to a period of reflection and reassessment about how progress can be accelerated. While views differ, there is a recognition that the current approach needs to evolve to better meet the scale and complexity of today’s challenges. At the same time, this moment should not be seen as a setback, but as an opportun...

A group of researchers at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies systematically connected every quantitative ESRS datapoint to UN Sustainable Development Goals. The paper includes the complete mapping as supplementary material. This matters because in today’s ESRS obsession we often forget that it is a framework within a framework and should connect to it at the end of the day. This research anchors actual ESRS performance data to SDG claims. ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€: • Systematic mapping of 1,144 ESRS disclosure requirements to all 17 SDGs and 169 targets • Triple-way matching connecting ESRS to GRI to SDGs • Assessment of whether each indicator ...
