Consultation on the draft Note on Critical, Emerging and Enduring Issues - by April 24th
The Committee on World Food Security (CFS), the foremost intergovernmental and international evidence-based and multi-stakeholder platform related to food security and nutrition, mandated its High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE-FSN) to “identify emerging issues, and help members prioritize future actions and attentions on key focal areas” (CFS reform Document, 2009).
The HLPE-FSN is now developing its 4th “Note on critical, emerging and enduring issues” (CEEI), to inform the preparation of the CFS MYPoW 2027-2030.
As part of the note development process, the HLPE-FSN invites members and participants of CFS as well as the broader public to provide inputs, suggestions, and comments through an e-consultation on the first draft of the note (V0 draft).
This draft note identifies ten key issues affecting food security and nutrition (presented in no particular order):
- Advancing the post-2030 Development Agenda through food systems transformation
- Achieving food security and nutrition in climate crises
- Food security and nutrition, and the three Rio Conventions: Biodiversity, Desertification and Climate
- Geopolitical uncertainty and polycrises: how to predict and prevent impacts on food security and nutrition
- International trade for food security and nutrition
- Corporate concentration in food systems
- Digital innovations and artificial intelligence (AI) for healthy, sustainable, and equitable food systems
- “One Health” as an integrating framework for food security and nutrition
- Affordability of healthy and nutritious diets to ensure food security and nutrition
- Agency for food security and nutrition
E-consultations are a key part of the inclusive and knowledge-based dialogue between the HLPE-FSN Steering Committee, the drafting team and the scientific and knowledge-holding community at large.
Questions to guide the e-consultation
In particular, you are invited to:
Share your feedback on the proposed list of selected critical, emerging and enduring issues (CEEI):
- Are the issues identified by the HLPE-FSN the most important issues affecting food security and nutrition, globally and in specific contexts?
- Are there any other key issues that should be added and elaborated? If yes, please justify why they are “critical”, together with relevant literature and data.
- All the issues are interlinked, however, for the purpose of analysis and focus, they have been presented separately. Please let us know if, in your view, some of the issues could be combined, or if the linkages between different issues should be further strengthened in the analysis.
Share your inputs on one or more of the ten CEEI listed:
- Are the drivers and trends identified fully capturing the link of each respective CEEI with food security and nutrition (FSN) outcomes?
- Is there any aspect of direct or indirect FSN outcome that should be further elaborated?
- Is there any missing reference to key literature and data?
- Is the list of questions identified for each CEEI adequate to guide the development of a report on the topic? Would you suggest any additional questions or dimensions that should be further elaborated?
