Turkeiye announce the COP31 President

In November, Turkey clinched the bid to host COP 31, with Australia standing down  COP 31 will be held from the Nov. 9 to 20, 2026, at the EXPO area and surrounding venues in the Mediterranean city of Antalya. Australia did secure a leaders’ meeting in the Pacific, aimed at the interests of vulnerable island nations.

The venue rotates among the different UN political groups. It was the turn of Western Europe and Other States, which includes both Australia and Türkiye. COP32 will be in Ethiopia, as it will be in 2027, when Africa's turn comes. 

Brazil continue as the COP30 Presiency until COP31 starts in November. 

Turkeiye Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Muratr Kurum will be the President of COP31.

In 2006, Minister Muratr Kurum was appointed Head of the European Side Implementation Branch of the TOKİ Istanbul Implementation Department, and in 2009, becoming General Manager of Emlak Konut GYO A.Ş.

In 2018,,he was appointed as the Minister of Environment and Urbanization in the first cabinet of the Presidential Government System. 

During his tenure as minister, he focused on developing and strengthening cities with a new understanding of urban planning, while also protecting our environment. This included social housing campaigns with TOKİ (Housing Development Administration of Turkey) to enable low-income citizens to become homeowners. Specifically in Istanbul, he worked to transform urban transformation efforts into a mobilization effort. 

During his time as minister, he experienced numerous disasters: the fires in Manavgat and Marmaris, the floods in Kastamonu Bozkurt, Sinop, and Giresun, and the earthquakes in Elazığ, Malatya, and İzmir, working with TOKİ to revitalize cities and build new, safe housing. This included providing  46,000 disaster relief housing units, complete with social facilities. 

During the disaster of the century, the construction of 180,000 disaster relief housing units was initiated with TOKİ and Emlak Konut General Directorate. In 5 years, we reaching the goal of 81 million square meters of national gardens in 81 provinces. 

Ge also serves as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and as an AK Party Istanbul Member of Parliament.
