Join us for the C4UN Town Hall dedicated to final CSO preparations for the Summit of the Future and the Action Days, as well as other UNGA High-Level Week events.

C4UN Co-Chairs Dan Perell of the Baha'i International Community and Florence Syevuo of the SDGs Kenya Forum will co-facilitate a discussion to share the latest information, identify collective needs, and strategize to ensure that our respective initiatives at the Summit of the Future are complementary and synergistic, recognizing that fostering partnerships and collaboration across sectors and regions will strengthen the foundation for the Summit’s ultimate success.

As the negotiations of the Pact for the Future and its annexes conclude, developing independent benchmarks will be essential to help monitor, track and implement the Pact’s actions and recommendations post-September by Member States, the UN and civil society.

Road to the Summit Discussion Series, Session 16

Date: 20 September 2024

Time: 8:30 - 10:00 am (EDT)

Join us for the final session of the "Road to the Summit" series, titled “Beyond September - After the Summit of the Future.” This interactive discussion will explore what comes next after the Summit of the Future, emphasizing that the Summit marks a beginning, not an end. The session will also identify the next steps and shared narratives that can drive meaningful progress for a strengthened and more effective United Nations system.

It will feature reflections from civil society organizations, UN agencies, and Member State missions, followed by an open dialogue on how to lay the groundwork for continued advancements post-Summit. As this is the final session in the series, we also invite feedback on how the series can evolve and improve to foster deeper engagement in the future. See details of the event in the concept note

Summit of the Future Action Day Side Event

Date: September 21, 11:15-12:30 EDT |

Location: In-Person - UNHQ New York, Conference Room 1 at the United Nations HQ in New York (and webcast on UN Web TV)

Drawing on five years of experience and lessons learned from the UN2020 campaign, the Global Futures Forum, a dozen Global Policy Dialogues, regional thematic dialogues, the 2024 UN Civil Society Conference (UNCSC) and the drafting of the People's Pact for the Future, this event seeks to highlight major new initiatives in the "Pact for the Future," the "Global Digital Compact," and the "Declaration on Future Generations," and their potential areas for impact, implementation, monitoring, and follow up. The event focuses on a 12-month timeline of what key moments and actions will and should take place from now till the next UNGA High-Level week, with an eye toward the proposed review at the start of the 83rd GA session (September 2018). See further details here.

Date: 21 September 2024
Time: 11:15 - 12:30 PM
Location: Conference Room 7, UN Headquarters in New York

As part of the UN Summit of the Future Action Days, Oxfam International and partners will host a critical panel session on "Reforming the UN Security Council for an Equal and Sustainable Future." This event will address the ongoing global conflicts rooted in inequality and political strife, which continue to fuel humanitarian crises worldwide, disproportionately affecting ordinary people.

This side event calls on Member States—particularly the permanent members of the UN Security Council—to seize the Summit of the Future as a “once-in-a-generation” opportunity to commit to bold and just reforms. Panelists will discuss key policy recommendations drawn from the Pact for the Future, the High-Level Advisory Board on Effective Multilateralism, the People’s Pact for the Future, and Oxfam’s report ‘Vetoing Humanity.’

Date: 21 September 2024
Time: 1:00 - 2:15 PM
Location: Conference Room 6, UN Headquarters in New York

This side event, held during the Action Days of the Summit of the Future, will bring together Member State representatives, UN officials and Civil Society actors to craft a narrative of optimism grounded in the reality of today’s challenges. Speakers will share what within the Pact for the Future gives them hope and identify actionable steps with strong potential to drive progress beyond the Summit.

By uniting around a shared vision of optimism, this event will seek to catalyze meaningful action, fostering the commitment necessary to build a future of peace and prosperity.

With hundreds of recommendations directed toward the Pact for the Future, there is widespread consensus on the need for change. However, the true measure of success lies in how effectively the Summit can address the complex and growing risks facing our world.

21 September 2024
Time: 9:45 - 11:00 AM
Location: Conference Room 6UN Headquarters in New York
Sign up here if you plan to attend

This side event during the UN’s Action Days ahead of the Summit  is a space to learn about and discuss proposals on the transformation of global governance, put forward by a number of ImPACT Coalitions to build on the outcomes of the Summit and pursue a vision for renewed global governance in the coming years.

How to build on the seeds planted in the PACT to continue addressing the planetary emergency, inequitable distribution of power, lack of inclusion, continued violations of peace and disarmament goals, and gaps in accountability and the rule of law? Where is a need to go further? The event will address future pathways to bring about a more effective, accountable and inclusive global governance architecture.
