UN80 – Clustering the Environment Conventions around the Triple Planetary Crisis of Climate Change, Biodiversity Loss and Chemicals and Waste.

The United Nations has been called many things in its time: A champion of human rights.  The world’s peacekeeper and provider of disaster relief. A leader in climate change, sustainable development, poverty reduction, and disease prevention. The world’s single most important organisation. The UN reform discussion under UN80 presents an opportunity in the environmental area to review and strengthen the multilateral landscape. Since July, several articles in Inter Press Service have examined ways to strengthen the environment pillar through clustering. These suggestions were compiled in a report circulated to the UNEP Committee of Permanent Representatives and the UNEA Bureau meeting on September 29th and 30th, enabling them to consider the ideas as they prepare for UNEA 7. On the 29th of October, Felix Dodds , an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Carolina Water Institute and a Stakeholder Forum Fellow, and Jamie Cummings , Woodwell Climate Research Center, and a Stakeholder Forum Associate did a webinar for first-time delegates to a Climate COP.  We do this before the preparatory meeting in June in Bonn and before each COP in November or December.
