Appointment as Co-Chair of the 2027 UN Global Sustainable
Development Report (GSDR)

It is a great honour to have been appointed by United
Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as
Co-Chair of the Independent Group of Scientists
responsible for drafting the 2027 Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR).
The 2027 GSDR will be of critical importance, as it will be
the final report before the 2030 deadline of
the UN Agenda 2030, providing evidence-based guidance to accelerate
progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Published every
four years, the GSDR is the United Nations’ flagship science–policy
report, connecting science, policy, and society. Building on the legacy
of The Future is Now (2019) and Times of Crisis, Times of Change (2023),
the 2027 report will deliver actionable recommendations for governments,
the private sector, and civil society worldwide.
The Independent Group of Scientists comprises leading
experts from all world regions and disciplines,
including the natural and social sciences, economics, law, business, and
policy. Our work will be supported by a UN task team composed of UNDESA,
UNESCO, UNEP, UNDP, UNCTAD, and the World Bank.
I am deeply grateful to the European
Research Council (ERC) for nominating mefor
this distinguished role, which reflects our shared commitment to
strengthening the science–policy interface for sustainable development.

New Publication: Decision Theory with Applications in
Finance
|
|
|
|
The
book, authored in Greek and presently being translated for the
international academic community, explores core principles of Decision Theory and their use in
Finance, delivering both stringent
theoretical treatment and practical takeaways for academics and industry
experts.
The
book distinguishes between the Normative
Decision Theory (how decisions should
be made) and Descriptive Decision
Theory (how decisions are actually
made), focusing on the Principle
of Maximization of Expected Utility (ΑΜΑΧ) as the cornerstone of rational choice under
uncertainty.
“If an individual faces a set of alternative options, the
Principle of Maximization of Expected Utility dictates that the
individual should choose the option that ensures the greatest expected
utility.”
The
text provides an analytical exploration of utility, subjective
probability, and rational behavior, combining philosophical,
mathematical, and economic perspectives.
