UN80 – Clustering the Environment Conventions around the Triple Planetary Crisis of Climate Change, Biodiversity Loss and Chemicals and Waste.

The United Nations has been called many things in its time: A champion of human rights.  The world’s peacekeeper and provider of disaster relief. A leader in climate change, sustainable development, poverty reduction, and disease prevention. The world’s single most important organisation.

The UN reform discussion under UN80 presents an opportunity in the environmental area to review and strengthen the multilateral landscape.

Since July, several articles in Inter Press Service have examined ways to strengthen the environment pillar through clustering.

These suggestions were compiled in a report circulated to the UNEP Committee of Permanent Representatives and the UNEA Bureau meeting on September 29th and 30th, enabling them to consider the ideas as they prepare for UNEA 7. It has also been circulated to member states in New York prior to this workshop. The report is available here

The report was edited by Felix Dodds and Chris Spence, with Reflections by Liz Dowdeswell and contributions from Felix Dodds, Chris Spence, Michael Stanley-Jones, Hugo-Maria Schally, Stacey Azores, Peter Bridgewater and Rakhyun Kim, Jan-Gustav Strandenaes, and Craig Boljkovac.

Stakeholder Forum has published them as individual papers, which are available. Click on the links below.
