World Soil Day official event | 5 December 2025

The countdown has begun!

5 December marks World Soil Day (WSD), the United Nations celebration of healthy soils for a healthy life. Join us at 10:00 (UTC+1) at the Ministry of Culture of Italy for a unique global call to action.
FAO and its Global Soil Partnership (GSP) warmly thank Italy for hosting this event, especially the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests and its Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA) for making this special gathering possible.

Event highlights

👉 Theme: "Healthy soils for healthy cities”. This year's theme, "Healthy soils for healthy cities", reminds us that, with two-thirds of the world population expected to live in cities by 2050, it is more important than ever that we remember the role of urban soils in essential ecosystem services and that we bring visibility to solutions which foster inclusive, green cities.

🌟 Inspiring speakers: Attend the high-level opening session and hear from distinguished guests and experts.

🏆  Award announcements: Celebrate the announcement of this year's winners of the Glinka World Soil Prize, the King Bhumibol WSD Award and FAO soil contests.
