Taking Action Online - for Environmental, Social Justice and Sustainable Development

A new book by Adam Rogers is just out - "Taking Action Online - for Environmental, Social Justice and Sustainable Development." Adam was a communications advisor to the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC). He also had another book our recently "The Intrepid Traveler" which explored more than fifty countries over five years on a budget of less than $100 a month

Taking Action Online for the environment, social justice and sustainable development connects the many dots in the social media universe and provides step-by-step advice on how to raise funds, build communities and inspire action for the results we need to create the world we want.

The book is a great reference or for new people an introduction on the different social media that are out there and what you can do to use them for your campaign. There is a great Foreword by former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clarke who said:

"Never before in human history has it been so easy to reach out and connect with people and organziations from around the world, to learn from them and their unique experiences, and to help advocate for important issues. I hope that this book will inspire you to just that - to join us and others in our global effort to create the world we want for ourselves and the one we would prefer to leave for our children."

The book covers:

  1. Crafting your Online Strategy
  2. Websites
  3. Building a base with Email
  4. The Era Social Networking
  5. Setting Up Your Social Media Platforms
  6. Creating Compelling Content
  7. Creating, Sourcing and Using Multimedia
  8. Building and Sustaining Momentum
  9. Online Fundraising
  10. Online Volunteering
  11. Forcing Social Change through Social Media
  12. Bridging the Digital Divide

I found even as someone who uses social media quite a lot that i wasn't aware of some of the platforms that are out there. The book is a great one to explain the different social media platforms and has some great ideas on how to use them. Definitely something that will be in my references library.
